Skit

Note: to be read in a British or Irish accent.

I've just arrived home, wearing a charcoal button-down shirt with a flat black tie, and begin picking up clothes from the floor. Casey comes into the room.

Casey: Why'd you wear that to your interviews?
Me: What's wrong with this?
C: Should have gone with this blue shirt and matching tie. It creates a slimming effect that shows off your physique.
Me: I thought this one would look more professional.
C: You can't go against genetics.
Me: Hey, I am a highly skilled, IT professional. Been saying it all day, even I'm starting to believe it.

Better Than the Book

In the vast majority of instances, movies adaptions are not better than the books they are derived from. There can be many reasons to be attributed to this including better characterization, un-filmable settings, and a number of characters.

Christmas Poem

I wrote an acrostic poem for Christmas this year.

Truth

Some things are more important than others,
And telling the truth is one.
No child should be lied to
That just is not right,
And it is apparent why.

Ignorant children are,
So it is up to you to teach them.

Nobody deserves to be lied to.
Otherwise what is the point?
Truth is what is really important.

Relatives are the gift givers.
Every child should know this.
Any lie just hides the truth:
Love from family this holiday.

Writing is an Art

To say that writing is an art form requires the reader to know what art is and the history of art, or at the very least, what the different styles of art represent.

Art has been assaulted by many to confine it into certain types or criteria while many have spent their lives liberating it from any such rules. Many in the past have experimented with colors, lines, shapes, and breaking art down to its most base form. In the end, anything can be called art, but it is up the individual viewer to classify it as good or bad art.

Semester Over - Dean's List

The semester is finally over with my final grades being posted. Somewhere my math was lacking as I ended up with a B+ in A&P along with As in Sci-fi, Children's Lit, and Art History each. I ended up with a GPA of 3.85 which not only is above and beyond Dean's List, it's also the highest GPA marking I've gotten; my first semester had a 3.77.

With some excellent marks, it's boosted my overall GPA to a 3.04. Now to focus on the next and last semester before I graduate with hopefully an even higher GPA.

Military Novels

I started to read The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien for next semester. I don't actually know the plot thus far, but so far it is about a guy in Vietnam along with his company, explaining all of the things they carried with them.

I've not read many military books, though I did read The Forever War by Joe Haldeman. One of the major criticisms of the book is that the characters are bland with no development and not very deep.

Happy Birthday

The act of snuffing out a candle is symbolic in that it ends something. In a marriage ceremony, it ends the single life you have to be combined with one candle along with your partner.

The opposite seems to be true for birthdays. Either the candle is in the shape of the year you turn, or there are candles numbering the years.

You would think that if the same symbolic act were to be consistent, the candle would either be the age you used to be, or the number of candles would be of your former age. Thus, by blowing out the candle(s), you are ending that age and moving on to your next year alive.

Musings of Testosterone

Two of the effects of testosterone on men is that is causes hair growth and increases their sexual drive. It can then be assumed that men with weak hair growth particularly on the face would have a lower testosterone level than those who have to shave daily, or twice a day. It can also be assumed that because of this lower level, their sexual drive is lower.

It is ironic then that in today's society, women prefer men with no hair on their bodies. They would then prefer men with lower testosterone levels and therefore a lower sex drive. This would go against the furthering of the species.

Introduction

Hello all who read this. My name is Jonathan Farnham, and I am a writer, poet, author, and a software developer. I decided to start this blog to be able to spell out some of my more long-winded streams of consciousness. Blogs will be political, scientific, and sometimes irreverent. I may even do some book or movie reviews. So thank you for checking out my blog, and I hope you learn something.
