In our society, we do weddings completely backwards. If you think of a wedding as one big celebration, shouldn't the marriage be the grand finale? I figure the whole thing should take a day and a half. The first day will be your typical reception where as many people show up to give gifts and party. Because it's an all day thing, the bride and groom can even open gifts on the first or second day while the guests are there. It is up to the bride and groom whether they want to be dressed up, or just wearing normal clothes.
It lasts all day with food, dancing, and mingling. Then the second day will have some more celebration during the first half of the day, followed by the reading of vows during the evening. This also allows for them to have a sunset wedding. The groom can face south, while the bride faces north, and everyone faces west and watches them.
This style has a lot of pros to it. Since it is over two days instead of crammed into half a day, it allows for some people to at least come to the reception and wish them well, or show up the second day and still get to party and eat before they get married. It allows the bride and groom to mingle a lot more while still enjoying the festivities. I imagine they do not get to experience as much as they want to while having to mingle. This new style of getting married is a lot more romantic being that it is taking place at sunset. Who would not want that?
