YouTube Review: RollPlay & Misscliks

I have been playing Palladium Fantasy on and off for the last ten years or so. Over the time, I have changed both as a player and a game master (GM). Through TotalBiscuit on YouTube, I came across JP McDaniel's RollPlay series. In it, JP McDaniel, Ryan Moore, Geoff Robinson, and Geneviève Forget play Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition with their Dungeon Master, Neal Erickson. With only webcams and a screen showing the Roll20.net's map and dice rolling features, they are able to offer hours upon hours of entertainment full of gut-wrenching laughter, and all the feels the Internet has to offer.

What the show, RollPlay, does more than anything is give inspiration and enthusiasm for roleplaying no matter what system you play with. Neal as a DM has given me a new way to look at how I run games as well as a different way of approaching the creation of a fantasy world. This has already helped me in the Palladium Fantasy games I run.

The rest of the cast are funny and amazing in what they say and make their characters do. Even though it is only a game, and not even our characters, we still connect with them as if we watched them on a television show each week.

With the move towards digital media, and streaming online, shows on YouTube have more entertainment value than the copy and paste shows on television.

Now with the success of RollPlay, Geneviève Forget has started to stream another Dungeons and Dragons game called Misscliks D&D Pirate Edition. Neal is also the Dungeon Master of this game, together with Geoff Robinson's wife Anna Prosser, Dana Pirkle, Stephanie Harvey, and of course Gen. Misscliks is just as funny and entertaining as RollPlay and hopefully will be an example for women that they can not only roleplay but also can be good at video games too.

Whether you want to watch great shows, or get priceless insight into running roleplaying games of your own, RollPlay and Misscliks should definitely be considered. Experience all the joys and heartaches as these celebrities of Major League Gaming kill Ogres, save towns, pet ferrets, and do a lot of evil just to even the scales.
